What to Do in Da Nang: Activities, Day Trips, and Beaches

6 min read

Real activities, day trips, beaches, golf, nightlife, and special occasions. What groups actually do here, from adventure to total relaxation.

Some groups come here and don't leave the villa for 4 days. That's fine. The beach and pool are that good. But if you want to explore, here's what actually works based on what our groups have done.

Beach Life

My Khe Beach

This is your beach. All the villas are on it. It's 6km of soft white sand, clean water, gentle waves. Forbes called it one of the most attractive beaches on the planet. Our guests call it "world-class" and "pristine."

What to do: Swim, surf, paddleboard, play beach volleyball, or just lay there. There are beach clubs with chairs and umbrellas you can rent ($5/day), or you can post up on your villa's section of beach for free.

The water is warm year-round. Waves are small most of the year, bigger during monsoon season (good for surfing, less good for kids).

Surfing

Best from September to March when the waves pick up. We work with a surf school that does lessons right on the beach in front of your villa. $30 per person for a 2-hour lesson including board rental. They're good with beginners.

Day Trips

Hoi An (30 minutes)

Ancient town, UNESCO World Heritage site. Lanterns everywhere, narrow streets, riverside cafes, incredible tailors.

What to do:

  • Walk around the old town (free)
  • Get clothes custom-made (suits from $150, dresses from $50, 24-hour turnaround)
  • Take a cooking class
  • Eat by the river
  • Visit at night when the lanterns are lit

We arrange transport (van + driver for the day, $80-120 depending on group size) and can book a local guide if you want one. Most groups just wander on their own.

Ba Na Hills / Golden Bridge (45 minutes)

The place with the giant stone hands holding up a bridge. You've seen the photos. It's real, it's impressive, and it's worth the trip.

Full-day trip. Cable car up the mountain, French colonial village at the top, amusement park, gardens, temples, incredible views. Tickets are about $30 per person.

Best to book this as a group. We arrange transport, tickets, and a guide. Gets crowded on weekends, so we usually recommend going on a weekday.

Marble Mountains (20 minutes)

Five limestone peaks with caves, tunnels, temples, and views. You can climb to the top or take an elevator partway up. About 2-3 hours to explore.

Entrance is $2 per person. Bring water, wear good shoes. The views from the top are incredible. You can see all of Da Nang and the ocean.

Food and Drink

Food Tour

I covered this in the food post, but it belongs here too. 3-hour walking tour through the city, hitting 8-10 local spots, eating everything. $35 per person. Great way to understand the food scene on your first or second day.

Cooking Class

Market visit in the morning, cooking class after. You learn to make 4-5 traditional dishes, then you eat them. About $40 per person, 4 hours total.

Groups love this as an activity. It's interactive, you learn something, you eat well, and it's a good bonding experience.

Coffee Culture

Vietnamese coffee is strong, sweet, and everywhere. Try egg coffee (coffee with whipped egg yolk, sounds weird, tastes amazing) or coconut coffee.

Café recommendations: Cộng Cà Phê (nostalgic Vietnamese vibe), 43 Factory Coffee (industrial-cool), The Espresso Station (serious coffee nerds).

Activities for Active Groups

Golf

Three championship courses within 20 minutes:

  • BRG Da Nang Golf Resort: Designed by Greg Norman, rated #1 in Vietnam. $140-180 per round.
  • Montgomerie Links: Links-style course, ocean views. $120-160 per round.
  • Laguna Golf: Parkland course, a bit easier. $80-120 per round.

We book tee times, arrange transport, and sort out club rentals if you're not bringing your own. A lot of corporate groups build entire trips around golf here.

Cycling and Motorbike Tours

Guided tours through rice paddies, villages, and countryside. Half-day or full-day options. Motorbike tours are more popular with adventure groups, cycling with families.

About $50-80 per person depending on length and what's included.

Water Sports

Jet skiing, parasailing, banana boat. All available on the beach. Not our favorite (can feel touristy), but groups with teenagers usually want to do this stuff.

Chill Activities

Spa and Massage

Every compound has a spa. Massages run $15-30 for an hour. They're good. One guest called them "a MUST!!" after a day of activities.

We can also arrange in-villa massages if your whole group wants them at the same time.

Yoga

Some groups bring their own instructor. Others hire a local teacher to come to the villa. $30-50 for a group session on the beach at sunrise. People love this.

Sunset on the Beach

Free, beautiful, happens every day around 5:30-6pm depending on season. Bring drinks from the villa, sit on the sand, watch the sun go down. This is what people remember most.

Nightlife

Beach Bars

A few good ones within walking distance of most villas. Live music, cocktails, beach bonfire vibes. Not crazy party scenes, more like "have a few drinks and hang out" energy. Guests mention the "lively bar" and "great live music" at several compounds.

Downtown Da Nang

15 minutes by car. Sky bars with city views, night markets, riverside bars, clubs if you want them. We don't usually recommend this for the whole group (getting 20 people back to the villa late at night is a logistical headache), but smaller groups of 4-6 go downtown sometimes.

Special Occasions

We've organized:

  • Birthday dinners on the beach with bonfire and decorations
  • Anniversary setups (flowers, candles, private chef dinner)
  • Proposal arrangements (yes, several of these)
  • Team-building activities for corporate groups
  • Private boat charters for sunset cruises

One guest told us we "helped prepare a birthday night for my girlfriend" that was perfect. If you're celebrating something, tell me when you book. We'll make it happen.

How Much to Plan vs. Wing It

Most groups plan 1-2 big activities and leave the rest open. Example itinerary:

  • Day 1: Arrive, settle in, beach and pool
  • Day 2: Hoi An day trip (pre-booked)
  • Day 3: Beach day, food tour in evening (pre-booked)
  • Day 4: Some people golf, others chill at villa
  • Day 5: Beach morning, departure afternoon

This gives structure without over-scheduling. You can always add stuff last-minute. Just message me and we'll make it happen.
